Season’s greetings from Immigration South Australia
As 2018 comes to a close, we look back at some of the milestones we have achieved in this very busy program year.
General skilled migration (GSM)
Immigration SA has processed 2,569 nominations under the GSM program for 2017/18, and we are currently tracking at 1,909 year to date for the first half of this financial year.
Immigration SA has delivered a total of 58 support service events attended by over 2,100 newly arrived migrants. These events include monthly “Welcome to SA” information sessions, employments workshops and spotlight seminars.
From January to December (YTD) we have responded to over 7200 enquiries (email, phone or online enquiries), completed 879 qualification assessments, and 15 overseas skilled trades people in licensed trades received a subsidy to undertake skills gap training to advance to a full trade license.
Business migration
Immigration SA’ s Business Migration program is stronger and busier than ever! Over the past 12 months, the business migration team held an impressive 684 face-to-face client meetings, in addition to welcoming 17 delegations of potential clients to South Australia from China and Malaysia. The team has been involved in three very successful trade expos in South Australia, where SA regional producers met with business clients and agents looking to export products.
International graduates
We have been very active in connecting with international graduates and proving information relating to pathways to permanency in South Australia. Immigration SA has attended three university career expos along with targeted seminars where we presented to hundreds of students to outline the process and options available for students wanting to make SA their home.
New visa!
In November we launched a new pilot program to attract the best and brightest entrepreneurs to South Australia.
South Australia was selected as the pilot state for the three-year Supporting Innovation in South Australia (SISA) visa which will encourage budding foreign entrepreneurs, with business ideas centred around emerging industries – such as space, cyber security, big data, defence, agribusiness, medical technology and robotics.
Upgrade to our online system
Earlier this year, Immigration SA underwent a major upgrade to our online application system. The new streamlined process now offers one platform for migration agents and clients to manage their applications, status, communication and meeting requests through the Immigration SA Apply website. These improvements support the increased volume of general skilled and business migration applications in South Australia by providing a smarter online solution for service delivery to agents and clients.
Immigration SA would like to take this opportunity to wish all our clients, migration agents and stakeholders a very happy and safe Christmas and New Year holiday period.
