Australia Travel Declaration (18-Aug-2021)

Before you travel to Australia, you should complete the Australia Travel Declaration at least 72 hours before your departure.

The Australia Travel Declaration collects your contact details in Australia, flight details, vaccination information, quarantine requirements and your health status.

This information helps the Australian Government determine your quarantine arrangements (if required) and also allows the relevant health departments to contact you if someone you travelled with tests positive for COVID-19. If you do not complete the declaration you may not be able to board your flight, or you may experience delays when you arrive in Australia.

Starting your declaration

Before you start your declaration, have the below information ready:

You will need to create an account, which will allow you to manage your current and future declarations in one place. However, you cannot update your answers once a declaration has been submitted. You will need to submit a new Australia Travel Declaration and then delete the previous one. This includes if there is a change in your flight, health status or you made a mistake.

You can still create a new declaration, even if the old one has a message displaying it is being deleted.

Parents should complete a declaration for any child under 15 years of age. Anyone who is 15 years old and over should complete their own declaration.

You do not have to pay for an Australia Travel Declaration — it is free.

Note: Giving false or misleading information to the Australian Government is a serious offence. If convicted, the maximum penalty is imprisonment for 12 months.

Once you’ve completed the Australia Travel Declaration, you will receive an email confirmation with details you can show (either electronically or printed) before you board your flight and on arrival in Australia.

Even if you have received the COVID-19 vaccine you must undergo 14 days of mandatory quarantine on arrival. This is to minimise the risk to the community from the introduction and spread of COVID-19.

All travellers should check the arrangements in both their place of arrival and place of final destination, as quarantine requirements are different in each Australian state and territory.

Safe travel zones

A safe travel zone is an agreement with another country to travel to Australia quarantine-free, provided a traveller has not been in a COVID-19 outbreak location in the last 14 days. Currently Australia has a safe travel zone agreement with:

There is a pause on all New Zealand green zone flights from 11:59 pm (AEST) on 18 August 2021. All travellers on flights from New Zealand must go into 14 days of supervised hotel quarantine on arrival in Australia. They must adhere to the requirements of the state or territory they are entering.

I can’t create an account

You need to verify your email twice before you create an account.

Click ‘send verification code’ and then check your email. The verification code is sent from Microsoft on behalf of the Department of Home Affairs (msonlineservicesteam@microsoftonline.com)

Steps Actions
1 Enter the verification code and click ‘verify code
2 Enter your password, display name and click ‘create’
3 It will ask you to verify again for security purposes, select send ‘verification code’
4 Enter the verification code and select verify code
5 A message will display that confirms your code has been verified, select continue.

The verification code is only valid for 4 minutes from the time you receive it.

The Australia Travel Declaration will time out after 30 minutes of inactivity.

I’m logged out or timed-out of an unfinished Australia Travel Declaration

You cannot save an unfinished Australia Travel Declaration.

If it times out before you complete it, you will need to begin a new Australia Travel Declaration.

I can’t complete or submit the Australia Travel Declaration

I haven’t received an email confirmation after submitting a declaration

If you cannot see your Australia Travel Declaration outcome email, check your junk or spam folder.

You can log into your Australia Travel Declaration account to see your submission and outcome at any time.

I can’t log in to my account after submitting the Australia Travel Declaration

If you are unable to log into your submitted Australia Travel Declaration, you can reset your password:

1 Click on ‘forgot your password?’ (below the password field on the login screen)
2 Enter your email address in the required field and click on ‘Send verification code
3 You will receive an email with a verification code from Microsoft on behalf of the Department of Home Affairs (msonlineservicesteam@microsoftonline.com).
4 Enter the verification code and select ‘verify code’
5 Your email address will be verified, select ‘continue’
6 You will need to repeat this verification process for security purposes – follow steps 2 to 5 again.
7 Enter new password
8 Confirm new password

Once the password has been reset, you should be able to log back into the submitted Australia Travel Declaration.

Enter flight details correctly

Enter the details of the flight that arrives in Australia. You can find this on your booking confirmation.

Correct format for flight numbers are NZ103 (not NZ0103), QF2 (not QF002).

Update passport details

Once you have submitted your Australia Travel Declaration, you can update your passport details, however you will then need to submit a new declaration. You may wish to delete any previous declarations.

To update your passport details:

If you cannot complete the declaration again to correct your details, it will not delay or prevent you from boarding your aircraft, subject to meeting your airline’s requirements.
